June Weather in Kent 2026: A Complete Guide & What to Wear
June is a fantastic time to visit Kent. With the longest daylight hours of the year and flowers in full bloom, it’s the perfect month to explore the ‘Garden of England. it’s so lovely to see the strawberry fields ripening and the famous chalk grasslands alive with rare wildflowers. It’s a month for outdoor dining, seaside strolls, and making the most of the near-endless daylight.
While June is generally warm and inviting, in my experience it can be still a bit unpredictable—one day you’re at the beach in Broadstairs, and the next you might be dodging a sudden thundery downpour.

What’s the June weather like?
June is a warm and generally dry month in Kent and much more settled than weather in May. Average daytime highs reach a comfortable 19°C (66°F), though it’s very common for inland spots like Maidstone or Gravesend to climb well into the mid-20s during a sunny spell. Nighttime temperatures finally feel mild, averaging around 11°C (52°F), meaning the last of the evening chill has finally vanished.
On the coast, the sea is still warming up, so towns like Folkestone or Whitstable might feel a little fresher due to the sea breeze. However, this same breeze often keeps the coastal fringe clear of the clouds that can bubble up over the North Downs.

Average temperatures in June
June sees a steady transition into summer heat, though the “June Gloom” (overcast skies) can occasionally make an appearance in the first half of the month.
- At the beginning of June: Expect daytime highs of 17°C to 18°C. The air is fresh, and while the sun is strong, a light breeze can still make it feel a bit crisp.
- By the middle of the month: Temperatures usually settle around 19°C or 20°C. This is often when we see the first “heat spike” of the summer.
- Toward the end of June: Highs often reach 21°C to 23°C. As we approach the solstice, the sun feels powerful, and the evenings stay warm long after sunset, especially heading towards July.

June daylight
June is the month of the Summer Solstice (around June 21st), offering the maximum possible daylight. You’ll have over 16 hours of light to explore, with dusk lingering until nearly 10:00 PM.

- Humidity: Hovers around 68%, making it one of the most comfortable months of the year—warm without the heavy “muggy” feel of late July or August.
- Wind: Generally light. The “March winds” are a distant memory, though the coastal “sea breeze” can be quite consistent in the afternoons.
- Fog: Morning mist is rare, though you might occasionally see a “sea fret” (coastal fog) roll in off the Channel in the early morning before the sun burns it off.

Average rain weather forecast in June
June is one of the drier months, with an average rainfall of about 52mm. It typically rains on about 10 to 11 days. However, June rain often comes in the form of “convective showers”—short, sharp, and sometimes thundery bursts that clear quickly to reveal bright blue skies (like the photo above I’ve taken at Hythe beach).

Average sun days in June
Expect plenty of sunshine! June averages about 7 to 8 hours of bright sun per day. You can usually count on 12 to 14 “mostly sunny” days, which is why June is such a popular month for weddings in Kent’s many country estates.
How to read the local weather forecast
- UV Index: It frequently hits 6 or 7 (High). The sun is at its highest point in the sky, so you can burn very quickly, even if there is a cool breeze.
- The “Thundery Breakdown”: If the forecast mentions “humid air from the continent,” keep an eye out for spectacular evening thunderstorms, which Kent often gets as they track across from France.

What to Wear in Kent in June
It’s finally time for your summer wardrobe, but with a “just in case” layer.
- The Outer Layer: A light denim jacket, a linen blazer, or a thin cardigan for when the sun goes down.
- The Main Outfit: Shorts, sundresses, and T-shirts are the standard. Linen and cotton are your best friends this month.
- Footwear: Sandals and light trainers are perfect for the dry paths. You can finally leave the mud-boots at home!
What to pack for your Kent trip
- High-SPF Sunscreen: Especially if you’re planning a day at the beach in Dymchurch or Margate.
- Sun Hat: The midday sun is no joke when you’re touring open gardens like Sissinghurst.
- Swimwear: For the brave! The water is still a bit brisk (14°C), but many people start taking their first dips in June.
- Anti-histamines: If you have hay fever, June is the peak for grass pollen.

What does Kent’s nature look like in June?
- Wild Orchids: June is the best month to see the rare Bee Orchid and Pyramidal Orchid on the chalky slopes of the Kent Downs.
- Wildflower Meadows: Look for Oxeye Daisies, Poppies, and Buttercups in the hedgerows and “unimproved” meadows.
- Strawberries: Pick-your-own farms across the county (like those in the Meopham or Tenterden areas) open their gates as the first berries ripen.
- Elderflower: The hedgerows are heavy with white elderflower clusters—perfect for those making homemade cordial.
