Why Handmade Kent ?

As much as this is a travel blog I also wanted to showcase local talented people, small business, artists and handmade crafts – which is why when I started Handmade Kent in 2015 I chose that name.

I have lived and worked in Kent for more then 27 years and from the beginning loved taking long walks in Kentish countryside, finding out hidden treasures (yes, I’m talking about those great country pubs tucked away, where you can sit next to a burning fire and get the lowdown on local gossip), learning more about the local history, visiting beautiful Kent castles and pretty gardens.

Kent as place is a very special to me, this is where I spend most of my time, run my own creative business and meet my friends. I’ve spend years running my own bread, cakes and chocolate stall travelling across Kent to various farmer’s markets.

I also love visiting and re-visiting all the Kent seaside towns, having fun with taking my own photos and discovering new places.

As a garden volunteer and a house guide I’ve also enjoyed working at Charles Darwin’s Down House and William Morris Red House. I’m proud to say, that to this day, the tearoom at Down House serves Emma Darwin’s Scotch Cake, which I’ve baked following her recipe and first supplied the tearooms back in 2012.

Handmade Kent Blog is also a place where I  want to showcase the talent that Kent has. People, small businesses and creative business owners that are working tirelessly to bring the best they have to offer to the wider Kent community.

And until now, you might not have heard of them, so we wanted to put that right.
