30 Things to Do in Kent in August 2026 (Seaside Festivals, Live Music, Independent Markets)
August is the absolute pinnacle of the Kentish summer. With the school holidays in full swing, the entire county shifts gear into a proper holiday mindset. The coastline fills with beachgoers, the lanes are buzzing and the calendar is absolutely packed with massive seaside music festivals, traditional country shows and incredible open-air theatre events.
The days are glorious and long, giving you those perfect, balmy evenings that make you want to stay out by the coast or sit in a historic castle garden until the stars come out.
Is August a good month to visit Kent?
August is brilliant if you want full-on summer energy and the best chance of proper hot weather. Average highs sit around 22°C to 23°C, but on a beautiful sunny day, it routinely pushes well into the high 20s. It’s peak time for swimming in the sea at Botany Bay or grabbing a sunset drink on the Margate steps.
Saying that, because it’s the height of the summer break, popular spots like Whitstable, Broadstairs, and Hever Castle are going to be super busy. If you prefer a bit of space, my advice is to look for the massive parkland festivals inland or plan your coastal trips for mid-week mornings when the beaches are beautifully quiet.
