The Mount Vineyard: Wine Tasting, Wood-Fired Pizza & Country Walks
The Mount Vineyard is a lovely vineyard based in the picturesque village of Shoreham, near Sevenoaks. The vineyard was originally established in 2004 with first wine produced in 2008.
I recently had the chance to visit and taste their wines and it was very relaxing experience. This vineyard is not far from London, but it feels like a world away. In this blog post, I want to share my experience at The Mount Vineyard, from tasting their delicious wines to enjoying a relaxing meal in their restaurant. If you are looking for a special day out in the English countryside, this is the perfect spot!

My favourite things about visiting The Mount Vineyard
I really enjoyed my recent visit to the Mount Vineyard, when I walked part of the Darent Valley Walk from Otford to Shoreham.
I had a chance to look around a bit and then I opted for the vine tasting at the vineyard shop, since the restaurant was quite busy. It was actually a great way to experience the vine and the vineyard, as the tables were right next to the rows of growing vines and it was very quiet there.
We got a selection of three Mount Vineyard wines in tasting glasses together with water and tasting notes. The staff were very helpful and gave us a little explanation about which types of grapes are grown on the vineyard.
MORE VINEYARDS IN KENT TO VISIT
My local tip
The restaurant can get very busy at the weekends and evenings as the vineyard is very popular venue, so if you can pick a weekday or early in the day you are more likely to get a table.
The vineyard also puts on quite a lot of different events, including comedy nights, music evenings, make up masterclasses or pilates lessons, which all sound pretty cool.
I’ve also previously combined the visit to the Mount Vineyard with the short walk to see the lavender fields at Castle Farm. This is particularly lovely in late June and early July, when the lavender fields are in full bloom, but autumn is also great as the farm has a harvest and pick your own apples.

A little bit about The Mount Vineyard
The first vines at The Mount Vineyard were planted in 2004 by the previous owner, with additional plantings in 2011, bringing the total area under vine to 10 acres (hence the name of the vineyard shop…). The vineyard grows eight different types of grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Bacchus, Seyval Blanc, Siegerebbe, Phoenix, Rondo, and Regent. The first wine was produced in 2008.
In 2011, The Mount Vineyard was purchased by Simon and Sarah Greenwood, who continue to run it as a family-owned business today. They expanded the vineyard and now produce a range of award-winning still and sparkling wines.
The Mount Vineyard benefits from an interesting valley’s micro-climate, where some wines, that specifically need a cooler environment were planted closer to the river and others slightly higher up on the upper parts of the vineyard.

Wine Tours & Tasting
The vineyard offers guided wine tasting and also guided walk around the vineyard with explanation of the vine making process, and a tasting of their wines.
The tours are available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The tours are popular, so advance booking is recommended.
The guided tasting cost £35 per person or you can upgrade to the full tour and tasting for £40 per person.
Vine tasting – Self-Guided
The Mount Vineyard’s wine shop – the Ten Acres Shop, which is conveniently located near the car park, offers a wine flight with 3 different types of wine with background notes and cost from £11.95.
The good thing is that you don’t need to book, just turn up at the shop. You can also buy all the wine range, local artisan food, ceramics and take out tea and coffee (with freshly baked croissants at the weekend!)

Restaurant at The Mount Vineyard
The restaurant has a large indoor and outdoor space as well as a newly opened outdoor area just across from the restaurant.
The menu includes wood-fired pizzas, which are made fresh on-site, sharing platters, seasonal salads, small plates, and a selection of locally sourced dishes that pair well with the vineyard’s wines.
